HISTORY OF THE HOSPITAL

.
The formation of Marian Community Hospital, effective July 1, 1992, marks a milestone in the preservation of quality health care and service to the people of the greater Carbondale area in a spirit of cooperation and collaboration, the Boards of Trustees of both Carbondale General Hospital and St. Joseph's Hospital resolved to study and evaluate the best option available to offer health care to the community.
It was decided that the consolidation of the two hospitals would provide the most efficient health care delivery system.

Marian Community hospital is sponsored by the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary. The Board of Trustees, Medical Staff, and employees are committed to providing quality health care and programs which contribute to the well being of the people in the communities which are served. The contributions of the Auxiliary and numerous volunteers are an invaluable source of support to all of the works of the hospital.

In tradition of the healing ministry of the Catholic Church and service to the community, Marian Community Hospital is totally patient focused - concentrating on patient needs and patient satisfaction. It is with this purpose that the hospital looks forward to the future.
